A sum of money found by police in the possession of a 31-year-old man stopped for traffic violations, was identified as stolen on January 16 from the vehicle of a 67-year-old woman.
According to the police the woman kept a sum of €10,000 euros and 185 Turkish lira in the glove compartment of her vehicle which was parked outside her residence in Paphos.
Police stopped the 31-year-old shortly after midnight on Saturday on Akamantidos Street for driving with a suspended license and without insurance or MOT. The driver tested positive in a preliminary drug test.
In the subsequent search the money was found in his possession, for which he had no adequate explanation. The 31-year-old was arrested and detained for two days.
Following the outcome of the investigation, the man was re-arrested on Monday under a court warrant for the theft of the money in question.
