A young mother was killed on Saturday night in a car accident that occurred after 10pm on the road Akrotiri – Kolossi near the village of Trachoni.
The deceased has been identified as Marileni Constantinidou, 25, from the village of Yerasa, in the Limassol district, state broadcaster CyBC reported on Sunday.
According to British Bases spokesman Jan Kemal, the mother was a passenger in a car driven by her 23-year-old husband and in which their three-month-old baby girl was also travelling in.
Under still unspecified circumstances, the driver lost control of the vehicle in the direction of Kolossi, as a result of which it overturned and ended up in an adjacent ditch.
From the accident the unfortunate mother was killed instantly.
The infant was seriously injured and was transported by ambulance initially to Limassol general hospital and then to Makarios Hospital where she is being treated.
The driver was injured and was taken to Limassol general hospital where he underwent surgery.
Due to the car accident, the road was closed for many hours.
British base police are investigating the circumstances of the fatal car crash.
